'Finding Carter' Season 2 Spoilers: Showrunner Says Season Will Focus on Teens More
With the second half of Season 2 of "Finding Carter" underway, executive producer Emily Whitesell is making sure fans are aware of the show's rebranding and change of focus.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Whitesell revealed that the show will be much more grounded and less melodramatic this time around.
While the adults will still play a role in the show's storyline, particularly Lori (Milena Govich) and her relationship with Carter (Kathryn Prescott), the show will focus more on the kids and their struggles as teenagers.
"Finding Carter began as a drama about a kidnapped girl returning home and all the intrigue that came with that, but now it's about the teens learning to live with what happened and finding their place and autonomy," Whitesell said. "We pushed the show into melodrama a lot and now it's less of a melodrama and more grounded and takes place in real life situations."
The show has been successful in its original format, but according to Whitesell, the change has a lot to do with the viewers.
"Teens are very interested in that part of their own lives," she said. "That's intriguing to them, watching these characters struggle with the same issues they struggle with in real life. The family dynamics will still play into it, but this show is really about the teens and their lives, colored by what they've all been through and how the show started."
Whitesell confirmed that Carter will, in fact, be dropping out of school. The character will become involved in illegal activities, getting a job as a bartender even though she is a minor.
It is at the bar that she will meet Jackson Rathbone's character Jared, with whom she will have a very heated relationship, which will add to Carter's drama, reported Hollywood Life.
Elizabeth (Cynthia Watros) will be part of this plot line. Elizabeth is Carter's mother and obviously doesn't approve of her daughter dropping out, and the development will put a strain on their relationship. However, with the change of focus this season, Carter will still be the center of attention.
