Matt Barnes, Derek Fisher Feud: Memphis Grizzlies Forward Catches NY Knicks Coach With Ex-Wife
Former Los Angeles Lakers teammates Matt Barnes and Derek Fisher reportedly got into a fight Saturday night, according to the New York Post.
Barnes, who now plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, was at the team's training camp in Santa Barbara, Calif., when he got a tip that the New York Knicks coach is at the house he once shared with his estranged wife, "Basketball Wives LA" star Gloria Govan.
Sources of the New York Post said that the 35-year-old swingman got a call from his six-year-old twin sons Carter and Isaiah, telling him that Fisher was at the house. Barnes reportedly went wild, got into his car and drove 95 miles to Los Angeles to "beat the [expletive]" out of his former teammate.
The report added that the 6'7'', 235-pound swingman found Fisher, Govan and 10 more people in the backyard having a bonfire. A source said that Barnes texted a teammate saying, "I kicked his ass from the backyard to the front room, and spit in her face."
The Knicks head coach did not give any specific details on the incident and was more focused on the game against a Brazilian team at Madison Garden. "My state of mind— like I talked to the guys a few minutes ago — is personal, and private matters are personal and private," Fisher told reporters before a Knicks game on Wednesday.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the 41-year-old coach filed for a divorce from his wife in March while Barnes and Govan have been separated since September last year, as reported by TMZ Sports.
Yahoo! Sports said that Fisher is considering legal action for the incident but has not filed any charges while the 45-year-old reality TV star is expected to file a restraining order against his soon-to-be husband, as reported by the New York Post. The Memphis Grizzlies also released a statement regarding one of their players saying, "We are aware and currently gathering information regarding today's report involving Matt Barnes."
The NBA has not released a statement regarding the incident, but according to Yahoo! Sports' sources, the league is expected to investigate the confrontation with a possibility of fines or suspension. The NBA security has also been notified of a possible follow-up on the incident when the Grizzlies and Knicks face each other in the upcoming season.
The Knicks will visit the FedExForum to take on the Grizzlies on Jan. 16, 2016 while Memphis will visit Madison Square Garden on Feb. 5, 2016, per Bleacher Report.
