Rehab, Fat-Shaming Therapy or Chemotherapy? Selena Gomez Reveals True Reason Behind Her Break
"Same Old Love" Selena Gomez finally spilled the beans on why she had to take a hiatus from Hollywood's buzz.
No, she did not enter rehab unlike what rumors have been mongering. The 23-year-old star admitted that she had to take a chemotherapy for her condition that could have taken her young life.
In a Billboard Magazine interview, Selena said she almost had a stroke because of her lupus. "I was diagnosed with lupus, and I've been through chemotherapy. That's what my break was really about," said the artist, who's preparing for her comeback with a new album, Revival.
Reports regarding Justin Bieber's former lady love having diagnosed with lupus started in 2013. According to Hollywood Life, Selena even had to cancel her Australian tour. The pop star even said in a tweet that she needs to "spend some time on [herself] in order to become the best person [she] can be."
A source also told Hollywood Life that Selena has been keeping her condition under the wraps because she does not want her capabilities to be affected by other people's opinion.
Earlier this year, contrary to the true reason as to why the brunette beauty had took a break, rumors have it that Selena underwent rehab that's why she was MIA in the previous months.
In a report by The Hollywood Gossip, the former Disney star was rumored to be sent to rehab because of her sobriety issues and she allegedly just cannot stop partying all night long. An insider told The Hollywood Gossip that Selena just won't stop drinking from 2 p.m. until late at night. It was reported that some of her friends would blame her Bieber for their drunken friend.
However, the celebrity squashed all the rumors by admitting her recent chemotherapy sessions.
"I wanted so badly to say, you guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy, you're a---holes. I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again," Selena told Billboard, proving that the alleged trip to rehab was not true at all.
As for the fat-shaming therapy, the pop star also admitted it to be true.
According to Us Weekly via Daily Mail, the singer also underwent counseling after she was fat-shamed online, and in an airport.
Selena said she was mocked and was called "fat" after a plumper photo of her in a bikini surfaced online last May and it felt awful.
But whatever her experience was, the singer learned from it. "Each year, I'm becoming more who I am. I have a little more self-awareness. I feel confident and free. I'm not going to hide in my room and be depressed," she said.
