‘Ant-Man’ News: Sequel Coming With Surprising Title
The success of "Ant-Man" was enough to bring a new project to the table, but it is not a solo project this time. Instead, it will be a team-up, and the title is "Ant-Man and the Wasp."
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new film will be part of the new push for Marvel studios to begin soon. The push is called Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Three and the movie is slated to premiere in theaters on June 6, 2018.
The film will also be the first in the Marvel series of films to feature a woman superhero's name in the title. This is a direct response to Evangeline Lilly's portrayal of Hope Van Dyne.
The first film included an explicit tease that the daughter of the original Ant-Man would soon be following in her mother's footsteps. That means she will be donning her own suit and become a guaranteed warrior on the big screen with her own superhero capabilities.
The rise of comic book films in theaters and their dominance at the box-office is a fast growing trend for the industry. DC is slated to have a gigantic year in 2016 and Marvel, who has already enjoyed record-breaking numbers at the box-office, have been rolling out enormous hits, one after the other.
In Phase Three of their cinematic dominance, fans can expect to see "Black Panther" and "Captain Marvel" tearing up the big-screen real soon.
With the addition of the "Ant-Man" sequel to the Phase, there has been some rearranging on the release schedule for the company.
"Black Panther" has been reassigned to a Feb. 16, 2018 premiere date, which was originally scheduled for July 8, 2018. That marks the earliest in the year for a Marvel release.
"Captain Marvel" has also been reschedule from Nov. 2, 2018 to March 8, 2019.
Marvel has also announced there would be three additions to the phase for 2020 but have not named the projects yet.
