Samsung has just announced the Galaxy J2 a month ago. But now, a smartphone that promises to be better in every way and just as affordable as the J2 has been unceremoniously leaked on a couple of benchmark listings.

According to GFXBench and GeekBench via Phone Arena, the new addition to the Galaxy J series is known simply as the J3. The handset looks larger with more advanced features compared to the J2.

For starters, the J3 has a five-inch 720 x 1280 screen while the J2 only rocks a 4.7-inch 540 x 960 display. The former is powered by Qualcomm's 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz while the latter has the Exynos 3475 on chip. It wasn't mentioned though whether or not the J3 will sport the same Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display featured on the J2.

Other reported specs of the J3 include the Adreno 306 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. The handset has an eight-megapixel main camera with support for LED flash, face detection, touch focus and autofocus while its five-megapixel front-facing unit is capable of capturing 1920x1080 Full HD videos.

The J3 runs on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop straight out the box and has common smartphone features such as support for Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth connectivity.

There's no word yet regarding the J3's release date, pricing and global availability. However, it's safe to assume that it would come at an affordable price.

Aside from Samsung's name-based handsets like the Notes, Pockets and Xcovers, the Korean mobile giant has offered lettered-based offerings as well. S refers to the company's lineup of flagship devices; E & J stands for mid-range to budget smartphones while V and Y are the lowest-ended of the pack. There was once a Z that ran on the Tizen OS and a few might remember the K, which was fitted with a high-end digital camera.

Zooming in on the Galaxy J series, the roster already has entry-level offerings (the J1, J2 and J5) and a top-tier smartphone (the J7), but no mid-range device. This has led some tech pundits to speculate that the J3 might fill in that void.

In other Samsung news, the company's upcoming flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7, is rumored to have three variants, each with different processors.

One will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC while the other two will be equipped with the Exynos 8890 and Exynos 7422, respectively.

The Snapdragon 820 Galaxy S7 will retail in the U.S. and China. The variant with the Exynos 8890 on chip will be available in Japan, South Korea and some parts of Europe. Lastly, the Exynos 7422 model will be exclusive in India, as per SamMobile.
