Ke$ha Rehab, Twitter & Instagram: Kesha Returns After Treating Eating Disorder
For the past two months, "Timber" singer Ke$ha has been in rehab for an eating disorder; yesterday, however, she left the rehab facility, began her rebranding efforts, and told her fans to expect "tons of new music"!
According to MTV.com, "Ke$ha 2.0" includes a change in her Twitter handle -- to KeshaRose, thereby dropping the "$" from her name. According to the same site, her family wants her to ditch her longtime mentor and producer, Dr. Luke, because he consistently "fat shamed" her (called her fat, etc.), which led to her eating disorder. There's also some suggestions that Kesha -- as she'd like to be called now -- will be totally switching up her musical style (going country?), and even may consider a reality show... or even acting!
But according to Newsday, all of that is preposterous. The My Crazy Beautiful Life star, who is also a vegetarian, said that she's "happy to be back" while thanking the fans for their continued support. She also said that she feels "healthy" after a two month stint in rehab.
In 2005, at age 18, Kesha was signed to producer Dr. Luke's record label, Kemosabe Entertainment, and publishing company. Although an active musician since then, singing background vocals and writing songs for other artists, her breakthrough came in early 2009 after appearing on rapper Flo Rida's number-one single, "Right Round". Her debut album, Animal, and her first extended play, Cannibal, were released in 2010. Kesha's irreverent music and image propelled her to immediate commercial success, with Animal debuting as the number-one album in the US. She also achieved two number-one singles, "Tik Tok" and "We R Who We R", and a string of top ten hits from the album and its re-release. At the same time, she continued to write songs for other artists, including "Till the World Ends" for Britney Spears. Warrior, her second studio album was released in December 2012, spawning Kesha's eighth top-ten hit with "Die Young." "Tik Tok" is among the best-selling digital singles in history, selling over 14 million units internationally.
