Chiquis Rivera Discusses Representing Women In Music, Gloria Trevi & Jenni Rivera Museum
Chiquis Rivera sat down with Billboard on Oct. 8 to discuss being one of only two Latin female artists, currently on the top music charts, and the planned museum in her late mother's honor.
Rivera was one of the several Latino artists who attended the first-ever Latin American Music Awards in Los Angeles, California on Thursday night. During a backstage interview with Billboard, the singer discussed what it means to be one of the two women currently at the top of the charts and her admiration for Gloria Trevi, the other Latin female artist.
"It is a blessing, what can I say," Rivera said.
"I admire Gloria so much. She deserves it. She has worked so hard. Gone through so much in her life and I'm starting. It's just so nice to be able to represent women. We all know this is a male dominated industry but women, were doing something, were doing something right."
The singer, who named Joan Sebastian, Celia Cruz and Jennifer Lopez as inspirations, also went on to discuss how she felt about the announcement that her mother, Jenni Rivera, would be getting her own museum.
According to Rivera, the museum will be in Long Beach where her famous mother grew up and will include many of her mom's belongings currently in the family home in Encino the late star left to her children.
She also revealed Rosie Rivera, the sister of Jenni Rivera, is the one handling the details of the museum and the museum idea originated from the fact that putting the late star's belongings away was too hard.
The late-singer's sister recently shared an image on her Instagram of hard copies of the soon to be released "Jenni Vive" book.
Fans won't have to wait for the museum to get a look at the banda music icon's life because the book features exclusive images, letters and diary entries written by the iconic singer.
"I think that in a museum where we can all enjoy them [Jenni Rivera's belongings], her family, her fans, is the way to go so I'm excited about that," Rivera said.
