Horror creature dramas have been dominating the airwaves lately and CBS is adding a new vampire drama to their lineup named "Bathory."

According to Deadline, the series will feature the real-life Elizabeth Bathory, who was known to bathe in the blood of young virgin girls when she was alive in the 16th century.

The story of Bathory is one of the most horrific known to the European continent, which predates even the exploits of the notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper. She was a 16th century Hungarian countess and got quite a few nicknames, some of which were thought to have inspired Bram Stoker's classic novel "Dracula."

The legend of her escapades is something that has struck fear into the hearts of millions, considering the methods she used to kill her victims. Most of these methods had a serious vampire-like method of operation and it was these methods that cemented her name into the folklore of history and gave birth to other legends.

Now considered one of the most prolific serial killers of all time, she is believed to have killed more than 600 girls during her reign of terror. Her methods included torturing and maiming her victims. She drank and bathed in their blood, which she believed would give her eternal youth.

Her horrifying escapades came to an end when she was arrested and tried for her crimes. After her conviction, she was sentenced to a life in prison where she would eventually die in solitary confinement.

The series is being tackled by "Battlestar Galactica" alum David Eick and producer Joel Silver.

It is unclear at this time if the series will take on a supernatural theme or if it will try to remain true to the only known facts of the story. It will however take place during the 16th century, so there will be no updated retelling of the folklore.
