‘Daredevil’ Season 2: Elektra, Punisher Make Their Debut in NYCC
"Daredevil" is setting up a remarkable follow-up season to an already memorable debut. Marvel has already announced new cast members The Punisher and Elektra, but the two comic book favorites recently made their first public appearance at the New York Comic Con (NYCC) and shared more about their characters.
According to a report from the Hollywood Reporter, part of the cast who showed up in the NYCC were new additions Elodie Yung and Jon Bernthal, who will play Elektra and The Punisher in the Netflix hit series' sophomore season.
"It's intense, it's exciting," Yung gushed on her promising role as part of the Marvel franchise. "I can't be more happy, really."
Yung, who fans may recognize from her role in "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" in 2013, is a perfect fit for the strong Marvel character as she has extensive experience in martial arts.
Her co-star Bernthal chimed in with a promise to deliver his best performance as the iconic Frank Castle.
"I know how important this character is to you guys," he said. "I know that. I know how important this show is to you guys. I know how important he is to law enforcement and the military. I look at this as a huge honor, a huge responsibility. ... I give you my word, I'm going to give everything I have."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly before the team addressed the NYCC crowd, the "Walking Dead" alum opened up about his latest opportunity to star in another beloved series.
"The level of talent from the creators and the cast and the unbelievable crew, it's such an honor to be a part of," Bernthal explained. "They set the bar so enormously high. It's the first time for me sort of coming onto something that's so wonderful. I've always been there from the beginning and been a part of that culture from the beginning. It's an honor and a responsibility, and the pressure is on. These guys are no nonsense and they're really, really wonderful at what they do."
Even co-showrunner Doug Petrie expressed his excitement for the pair's debut in "Daredevil" during the panel interview.
"We love two things, and one of them is Matt Murdock," Petrie told the Hollywood Reporter. "The other is the world Matt Murdock navigates. With the Punisher and Elektra, we get to take it darker and further. ... The stuff you want to see, we want to see, and we can't wait to show it to you."
