PS4 vs Xbox One 2015: Phil Spencer Says Microsoft Is Focused on Gamers, Not on Competition
It's the never-ending battle of PlayStation versus Xbox or Sony versus Microsoft. However, Xbox One boss Phil Spencer stated that their team is not playing the game.
According to the Xbox One executive, Microsoft is not bothered by the advantage that the Sony consoles have over theirs. Instead, the team is directing their energy into delivering the best gaming experience to the fans.
"Team is 100% committed to making XB1 a great gaming console," he responded to a fan on Twitter. "Games, OS, XBL, that's the focus."
Spencer added in another tweet, "Our long-term Xbox vision isn't about competitors, it's about gamers. We'll stay focused there."
The discussion between the two leading gaming companies was reignited after Spencer addressed the competition during the 2015 GeekWire Summit. According to a report from VideoGamer, the head of Xbox was asked if Microsoft could beat Sony with the latest generation.
"You know, I don't know," he admitted during the conference. "You know, the length of the generation... They [Sony] have a huge lead and they have a good product. I love the content, the games line-up that we have."
While the initial statement did not seem like a vote of confidence towards his team, Spencer clarified that the team is making "amazing progress" to innovate and create a great experience for the consumers. He cited backwards compatibility as an example saying, "We didn't know back compat would work. We started it. A few ninja engineers went off and figured it out, how do you go from PowerPC to X86 and translate game code that's about as time-critical as any piece of code that you would want in terms of its performance, and they got it done."
"So I would never question the ability of our organization," he explained. "But I'll say we're not motivated by beating Sony, we're motivated by gaining as many customers as we can."
Backwards compatibility is set to be a huge part of the Xbox future. According to a report from Game Spot, there are nearly 30 games set to become available including best-selling video games like "Gears of War" and "Shadow Complex."
Another upcoming feature that will likely boost Microsoft loyalty is the New Xbox One Experience update that will offer a re-imagined gaming experience. Xbox director of program management Mike Ybarra posted an official update on Xbox Wire last month providing an overview of the company's "biggest update yet."
Powered by Windows 10, the New Xbox One Experience will let players access over a hundred Xbox 360 games on Xbox One, a more efficient Guide feature, redesigned Home and a Community section to reach out to the Xbox circuit.
