‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ Goes Gold; New Details on Ghosting, Time Cycles & More Revealed
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" has gone gold. As the upcoming action-adventure game marked this notable milestone ahead of its release, even more details on the gaming experience are revealed with the promise that the new "Tomb Raider" installment is better and more exciting than ever.
According to a post on the "Tomb Raider's" Tumblr, the game has achieved gold status and is on track for its official launch as announced by the head of Product Development and Western Studios, Darrell Gallagher.
"The entire team challenged themselves to improve on the last game that millions of fans enjoyed so much, and we believe we have created a worthy sequel to Tomb Raider 2013," Gallagher said. "With the game development now complete we are excited to share this incredible next chapter in Lara's journey as she continues her growth into the ultimate action adventure icon, and accepts her destiny to become the Tomb Raider."
With the new game on its way to the shelves, "Rise of the Tomb Raider" creative director Michael Brinker took the time to share game specifics during a phone interview with Games On Net.
According to Brinker, the ghosting features in the upcoming installment are better and more expansive with the option to "stealth entirely" and steer clear of fighting for most of the game. However, he also cautioned that players may also encounter situations when facing the enemy are necessary.
"There are some situations in which Lara is going to have to use some of her actual combat tactics and wit," Brinker explained.
There are a lot of factors that come into play in "Rise of the Tomb Raider," including day and night cycles that may affect the in-game world.
In some settings, the animals, resources and even enemy behavior and positions will vary during the different times of the day. The creative director assured that it will be a balance of a concrete storyline and flexibility saying "a lot of our weather, a lot of our time of day is set on that linear timeline so that players will experience the story the way we want it to be."
"And then when they go through (later) and explore, they'll be able to have a set of time and a set of weather that reacts with that," he continued. "So the player can experience what we want them to through the story, but also have that flexibility when they want to move around and play the game."
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" for Xbox One and Xbox 360 is slated for release on Nov. 10. The PlayStation 4 and PC edition will be launched in 2016.
