For BlackBerry, everything hinges on the success of the new BlackBerry Priv. The company has high hopes for the upcoming smartphone and recent details point to the potential of this new high-end device.

Previously, Latin Post reported that the new BlackBerry handset is the company's first Android-powered device. It will feature an impressive 5.5-inch screen and a classic slide-out QWERTY keypad.

Under the hood, the BlackBerry Priv will run on Adreno 418 GPU with Snapdragon 808, according to N4BB. Photos taken on the phone will be sharp and clear with the 18-megapixel Schneider Kreuznach rear camera that's also capable of capturing 4k video. Like other BlackBerry handsets, the smartphone will be protected by the BlackBerry Safeguard so users can track their security status.

A report from GSM Arena also featured a new leak from Leaksfly on Chinese website Weibo, which uncovered the projected price of the BlackBerry Priv when it finally comes out in the market. The newest BlackBerry mobile phone will reportedly cost $630.

Although the price tag may seem hefty, the company will be making sure the market will not have a difficult time shelling out for the handset, according to BlackBerry CEO John Chen at the Code/Mobile conference last week.

"We'll make the phone financially affordable to get, whether that's by installments or something else," he assured in a report from The Verge.

The BlackBerry executive shared more details and inside information in the interview during the conference, including what made the company finally take the leap and use a different operating system.

"Two or three things that I need to solve for the company to do well again is I have to go cross platform, I have to solve the lack of applications, and I can't let go of the security aspect," Chen explained. "We wanted to bring the BlackBerry knowhow in security - the whole stack - to Android, recognizing that we need the apps there and the world is about integrating now."

He added, "I'm doing what I'm doing to take advantage of what the industry has to offer without giving up the security and privacy features BlackBerry is known for."

According to the BlackBerry CEO, only the Samsung Knox and the BlackPhone are at par with the Priv when it comes to security.

When asked when the highly anticipated device will be available, Chen said that it's slated for release later this year, adding, "We're working with carriers now."
