"Star Trek Beyond" has been shooting in Dubai, and the film is expected to feature numerous scenes in the city.

The Dubai Film and TV Commission announced that the third installment of the "Star Trek" film series would be shooting in the city for 13 days. According to the commission, shooting was taking place at the Sound Stages in Dubai Studio City. There were also multiple indoor and outdoor locations used throughout the city.

Footage taken at Central Park Towers in the Dubai International Financial Centre was also revealed online.

Many extras were on hand for the shoot, seen dressed in Star Fleet uniforms. There were also spaceship props, Star Fleet insignias and a large production crew giving instructions to the extras.

The shoot also took place near the Jumeirah Lake Towers, where numerous areal and ground shots were captured. Shooting is almost finished, and production is scheduled to be completed in Dubai on Thursday, when the crew will move on to the next location.

"Star Trek Beyond" is one of the most anticipated sequels for next year. The release date has already been delayed in order for post-production to be completed without a rush.

The film will pick up where "Star Trek Into Darkness" left off. The movie will welcome back much of the original cast, including Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Simon Pegg. For the new film, Idris Elba will join the cast as the villain, along with Sofia Boutella.

J.J. Abrams will not return as director, instead handing the job over to Justin Lin.

The film follows the critical success of "Star Trek" and "Star Trek Into Darkness." Both films were box office hits and received Oscar nominations.

"Star Trek Beyond" will be released on July 22, 2016.
