'Street Fighter 5' Gameplay: 'SF5' Won't Have All Characters From 'Street Fighter 2"
With two more characters to reveal in order to complete "Street Fighter 5," brand director Matt Dahlgren said that they won't be necessarily taken from "Street Fighter 2."
According to Attack of the Fan Boy, Dahlgren revealed that one of the two remaining characters will be a fresh introduction while the other one will be taken from the previous "Street Fighter" series.
One of the reasons CapCom chose to put in different characters in the game was to prevent the "Street Fighter 4" incident, where all the characters were taken from "Street Fighter 2," making it look like a reunion of its previous series.
Overall, "Street Fighter 5" is scheduled to release at least 16 characters during its launch. However, additional characters are expected after CapCom releases the game's DLC version.
Alex from "Street Fighter 3" has also been hinted to return to the scene, but fans will still have to wait for the announcement of all characters to confirm it.
If an old character is expected to come out and Dahlgren has already implied that it may not be from "Street Fighter 2," then one could expect it to be from the Alpha Series or the "Street Fighter 3."
The Outer Haven had the chance to interview the brand director; however, he only confirmed the character of Laura, who has a special ability using the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He also teased, "There's still one classic character. There's still one brand new character."
Meanwhile, during the interview, Dahlgren also revealed that PC and PlayStation gamers will only get the two-day beta of the game. He said, "The big technical hurdle for this beta this time around is testing cross background play, so we want to start off to make sure that the new feature implemented on the PS4 version worked well then halfway through we're going to start tackling cross background play."
Prior to the introduction of Laura, Zangief has already been announced as one of the characters on "Street Fighter 5." So far, the game has produced seven confirmed characters already.
If the presence of Alex from "Street Fighter 3" is true, fans shouldn't be too excited about it as previous versions of the game has also showed old characters, but that was it. For example, in "Street Fighter 4," Vega was shown standing in a plane at the Small Airfield stage.
Dahlgren also confirmed that Capcom is going to join the PlayStation event this December.
