Becky G Instagram Updates: Star Opens up About Childhood in Mexico
Singer Becky G used a recent Instagram post to share what it was like to spend parts of her childhood in Mexico.
On Wednesday, the pop singer shared a video of herself riding a horse on a ranch, as well as some pictures of herself on a tire swing, on social media and used the opportunity to reveal some personal memories with her followers.
"Something about being on a Ranch around horses reminds me of when I was a little girl. I used to go visit my grandpas land in Mexico and feed horses, chickens, and even milk the cows. There's a little bit of a country girl down in me," the star captioned one of the images.
In July, after releasing her song "We Are Mexico" in response to Donald Trump's criticism of immigrants, the singer spoke to Billboard about her proud heritage.
"I'm just as proud to be American as I am to be Mexican," the star said. "If it weren't for my grandparents coming to this land I wouldn't have been able to get to where I am today."
The singer honored her grandparents, particularly her grandmother, with a personal essay for The Huffington Post about what she learned from the hardworking homemakers in her life, or "Amas de Casa" as they are known in Spanish.
The 18-year-old detailed what it was like living with her grandparents and the ways in which her great-grandmother, grandmother and eventually her mother took care of the family and home.
While the "Break A Sweat" singer has chosen a different path than the traditional homemaker, she revealed that she is very aware of her culture and appreciative that she had such women in her life.
"I still feel very connected to my culture and these family values," the singer wrote. "I am very thankful to have been positively influenced by my mom, grandmothers and great-grandmother. I always aim to reflect their qualities in everything that I do as a young Latina."
