'Minority Report' Season 1, Episode 5 Spoilers: Executive Producer Hints About 'Big Antagonist'
The cast and crew of Fox's Minority Report made an appearance at New York Comic Con this weekend, giving fans a glimpse of what is to come in future episodes.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Max Borenstein hinted that a serious antagonist may be introduced in Episode 5.
"In terms of evil, it's a world where there is no supervillian," Borenstei said. "[Though] in the episode we just screened today here, there's a character you meet who is a big antagonist in the series."
Borenstein also discussed the moral ambiguity of some of the characters saying there was darkness in Arthur (Nick Zano), and "more darkness than you think" in Agatha (Laura Regan).
When asked if he felt there was "genuine evil" in Arthur, Zano said, "I think it's more pain confused as evil, looking from the outside in."
When talking about show's themes, Borenstein felt Minority Report was particularly relevant in the current social climate.
"We're at peak paranoia and we're also dealing with the reality of the difficulty of policing and the job of police officers in this world," he said.
"The movie dealt really with that trade-off between security and freedom, and in our show, we take it to a really personal level."
The cast's interview comes right on the heels of Fox announcing the show's first season would be cut from 13 episodes down to 10. This was likely motivated by the show's poor ratings, with the season premiere ranking last among adults 18-49.
The show's reception has not been stellar either. Aggregate review site Rotten Tomatoes says the show has a 29 percent approval rating among critics.
"Lacking either the action or the imagination of its big-screen predecessor, Minority Report is a pedestrian spinoff that fails to capture the vision of the film," reads the site's critic consensus.
Hopefully the next episode can recapture the audience's interest. Minority Report airs on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
