Guillermo del Toro is an accomplished director in the genre of original horror films, but now he wants to take on more of a pet project and direct the remake of the hit 1989 film and Stephen King novel "Pet Sematary."

Del Toro announced his aspirations for the project via Twitter, after reading through the book and getting really hip to the dark source material.

Suffice it to say that the film was a major hit, but the book took the original material to many heights that were not all represented in the film. The content, as described by del Toro, is "unrelentingly dark and emotional" and for fans of horror novels, it is "compulsive reading."

But what really caught the fans eyes was what he wanted to do with the original material by King, which he created in the early '80s.

"Would kill to make it on film," is what he wrote in the tweet.

According to IndieWire, The remake of the film is something that has been circling around Hollywood now for years and for a director like del Toro to pick up on the idea of remaking it, well that says a lot about the content.

For starters, he is most well known for his originality in filmmaking, with projects like "Pan's Labyrinth," "Crimson Peak" and TV series "The Strain."

There was originally a remake planned with director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, but nothing has materialized from that project as of yet. That was back when Jeff Buhler was attached to write the script and the plan then was to start production in August.

So now, maybe it is time for del Toro to take over the planned project for Paramount and make a strong reimagining of the original novel from King. He certainly has a strong resume to bring to the table with a track record of successful visions that appeal to a mass-audience.
