2 Teens Charged With Abduction, Rape of Toddler in New Delhi, India
Two Indian teens were arrested in New Delhi on Sunday for the alleged abduction and rape of a 2-year-old toddler.
The Indian Express reports that the two 17-year-old boys lived in the same neighborhood as the young girl.
According to police, the toddler went missing during a 10-minute power outage at a Ramlila event in the area. She was found by neighbors at a nearby park a few hours later, crying and bleeding visibly.
The girl was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital, where authorities confirmed that she had been raped.
The two boys were found and detained following a massive manhunt in the area, local officials said.
"More than 15 teams were formed in this case and around 250 locals were questioned throughout the night, after which the police zeroed in on a few and later the accused juveniles were apprehended," Joint Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Dependra Pathak said.
According to RT, the accused are scheduled to be brought before a judge in 10 days.
In other news, three men were apprehended for the rape of a 5-year-old in eastern region of the Indian capital territory, Delhi. The crime reportedly occurred on the same night as the previously mentioned incident.
Officials say that the victim was lured into a neighbor's house, where she was assaulted.
"Her clothes were partially torn with blood spots all over them. Some locals saw her and she told them she was sexually assaulted," said an anonymous officer at the Anand Vihar police station.
RT reports 36,735 instances of rape were recorded in 2014, with more than 2,000 of those cases occurring in New Delhi. The actual number is likely even higher than that given the large number of cases not reported to authorities.
Just like week, a 4-year-old girl was assaulted and wounded with a knife in Delhi. She is currently undergoing surgery for her injuries.
