It didn't come as a surprise when news about Hideo Kojima leaving Konami surfaced online. In fact, previously, Kojima implied that the "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" would be his last under Konami's supervision.

According to the New Yorker, it was last Friday, Oct. 9, that Kojima left the Konami office in Tokyo, but before that, a departure ceremony was held at the Kojima Studios inside the Konami headquarters.

According to an unknown source of the New Yorker, the President and CEO of Konami were not present during the ceremony. This is not surprising as there has been some bad blood running between the two after Kojima revealed his intention to leave the company.

Despite the absence of the President and CEO of Konami, Kojima was joined by his loyal staff as well as employees from other studios within the Konami headquarters.

Kojima has worked for Konami since 1986, and, together, they have created their own blockbuster brand, the latest of which is the "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain." The said game gained at least 70 million when it was launched. The staggering amount only proves how much the partnership succeeded in bringing the best gaming experience to their fans, but just like anything that has grown old and weary, something must come to an end.

Some even think that Kojima's departure is not only the result of conflicting artistic ideas but the impending transformation of games from consoles to mobile phones.

Despite the increasing market on mobile games, Kojima is apparently apprehensive on putting his talents on such a small and confined platform. Hideki Hayakawa once confirmed that mobile games may eventually take control, saying, "mobile is where the future of gaming lies." He also confirmed that Konami will not entirely abandon the world of consoles and will continue to create games for the said platform.

Konami's executives and Kojima's rift apparently started when the latter thought that Kojima is taking too much time developing the "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain", causing financial expenses on Konami's part. Although it was never officially declared, rumors say that it was one of the reasons, Attack of the Fan Boy reported.

Kojima, despite parting ways with Konami, has promised to continue creating. Whether he's referring to video games or some motion picture in the future, everything remains to be seen until such time he settles outside the supervision of Konami.
