‘Star Wars Battlefront’ Gameplay: Han Solo, Princess Leia & Emperor Palpatine Confirmed as Playable Characters, More Details Revealed
The launch of Star Wars Battlefront feels far, far away, but the team behind the hotly anticipated game is keeping the Force alive with exciting news about new characters and modes.
Data miners recently uncovered an impressive dump of information that revealed the presence of the iconic characters from the original "Star Wars" trilogy. According to a previous report from Latin Post, Han Solo, Princess Leia and Emperor Palpatine will be in Star Wars Battlefront armed with special abilities that will likely make them favorites beyond the big screen.
The leaks were confirmed by EA Games in the official Star Wars Battlefront website as they announced the appearance of the characters and divulged new details about the playable cast.
One of the franchise's most beloved characters, Han Solo, will be a part of the upcoming shooter game, and the notorious smuggler is fun and aggressive as a playable persona. Handy abilities that Han Solo has under his belt include Rapid Fire, Lucky Shot and Shoulder Charge.
"Gameplay-wise, Han Solo is a gunslinger mainly designed for lone wolves and, echoing the beginning of the original 'Star Wars' trilogy, he's not very dependent on others," lead Hero designer Jamie Keen said in the official release. "Similar to a Rebel trooper, but with a greatly boosted arsenal, Han Solo might be the easiest Hero character to get into. Offensive output, damage, and mobility -- that's what this guy's about. "
The designer explained that the team behind Star Wars Battlefront wanted to capture the essence of the classic characters in the game. Another Hero that they translated for gameplay was the iconic royal Princess Leia Organa.
"It's clear that Leia is a leader, so in Star Wars Battlefront she's very much about support play, buffing team members, and holding positions," Keen continued in the website. "Furthermore, players spawning close to her will spawn as Alderaan Honor Guards. That said, she's got a lot of offensive output as well."
Inspired by her capabilities against stormtroopers in the film, in-game Princess Leia will be equipped with various abilities including Trooper Bane, Enhanced Squad Shield and Supply Drop.
Alongside the Heroes are the Villains, of course. Emperor Palpatine in the upcoming video game will play the deceptive and powerful character he did on the film series, with sneakily mobile gameplay and abilities such as the classic Force Lightning, Force Dash and Imperial Resources for his teammates.
Three new modes also announced by EA Games include the Battles, Training Missions, and Hero vs Villains mode where three heroes face off against three villains with Rebels or Imperial troopers comprising the rest of the team.
Apart from dishing on the recently announced characters, Keen also advised players to play the Hero Battles mission to get a hang of the various characters and their abilities.
"This is a really good testbed, where you'll get a sense of the playstyle of Leia and all the other iconic characters," he shared.
