'Wonder Woman' Movie News Update: Film to Be Like 'Captain America: The First Avenger'
As "Wonder Woman" goes into production, new plot details have been revealed.
Patty Jenkins will direct the film, and Den of Geek revealed Gal Gadot will star as Wonder Woman, while Chris Pine is slated to co-star as Steve Trevor. In the comic books, Trevor is a U.S. military intelligence officer and Wonder Woman's love interest.
The source also revealed new plot details. According to Den of Geek, the new Wonder Woman film will take part in three distinct time periods. The first setting will be in Themyscira, the idyllic island Wonder Woman calls home. Following that act, the film will then move to World War I in 1916. The final part of the film will set in present day, so that it can tie into the present Justic League setting and could move into the first "Justice League" film that is slated for the same year.
From the sources, it sounds like this film will be similar to "Captain America: The First Avenger," which was also set in the past and was eventually brought to the present to tie into the Marvel superhero world.
However, unlike Captain America, who is introduced in his solo movie, Wonder Woman will appear in the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." It will be interesting to see how they tie in the upcoming film with "Batman v Superman."
"Wonder Woman" is scheduled to start shooting in November and is reported to start production in London, England, and the island of Basilicata in Italy.
DC Comics and Warner Bros hope the upcoming comic adaptations bring the same crowds that have made Marvel and Disney so successful. "Man of Steel" already proved to be a hit and next year's "Batman v Superman" and "Suicide Squad" will be the biggest tests yet for the company.
"Wonder Woman" is slated to be released on June 23, 2017.
