'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Rumors, Cast & Spoilers: Benicio del Toro Talks Future Role, Childhood Fandom
While fans are getting excited for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Benicio del Toro has revealed details about his upcoming role in the eighth installment in the series.
The Puerto Rican actor told the Irish Examiner that it has been one of his dreams to be in a "Star Wars" film. Del Toro has always been a huge fan of the series.
He said, "I was a fan, especially of the first three ones -- 'Star Wars,' 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'The Return Of The Jedi.'"
Del Toro added that he grew up with the characters, and had a lot of posters and merchandise from the series.
"I watched them when I was a kid and I liked them. It's kind of exciting to be part of one of those posters I had in my bedroom when I was a kid. I like R2-D2 and C-3PO and Chewbacca," he said.
However, when he was asked about his role in the film, del Toro decided to stay quiet. The actor is expected to be a villain in the film, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
Del Toro is currently sharing the screen with Emily Blunt in "Sicario," which is one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year and has become a specialty hit at the box office. It is also earning del Toro a lot of Oscar buzz for his turn in the film.
The actor previously won an Oscar for his work on "Traffic" and was later nominated for his part in "21 Grams." Del Toro was also recently seen in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Inherent Vice."
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is one of the most anticipated films of the year and is currently breaking records with presales. The film has already earned $6.8 million and is expected to break the box office opening record.
"Star Wars: Episode VIII" is scheduled for 2017
