The BlackBerry Priv will be BlackBerry's first smartphone to use the Android operating system. The new phone will feature a full slide-out keyboard like past BlackBerry smartphones.

The BlackBerry Priv was originally code-named the BlackBerry Venice, but chose the name Priv to highlight the privacy features it has. The official website for BlackBerry accidentally posted a release date of Nov. 16 for the Priv but has since removed any mention of a release date, Tech Radar reports.

In the United Kingdom, the BlackBerry Priv is already available for preorder through retailer Carphone Warehouse. On the Carphone Warehouse website, they are quoting a release date of Nov. 6 for the BlackBerry Priv. That could mean a release in North America prior to Nov. 16.

The BlackBerry Priv will offer two choices of keyboards, the traditional physical QWERTY keyboard that BlackBerry is known for, and the touchscreen keyboard that Android smartphones use.

Besides the slide-out keyboard, the Priv's other unique feature is the slightly curved edges and screen. These edges are similar to what is offered in the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

Until recently the only images of the Priv that were available were unofficial leaks. Now, there are official press images that show the phone with the keyboard deployed and tucked away.

BlackBerry has confirmed that there will be a 5.4-inch screen on the Priv. The resolution is unknown, but rumors point to a Quad HD display.

The camera in the Priv should be 18 megapixels (MP) and certified by Schneider-Kreuznach. This camera should have optical image stabilization (OIS) features and will be able to record 4K video. A front-facing camera will also be included, but there are no reports on how many megapixels it will have.

The BlackBerry Priv should allow for heavy usage with its 3,410 mAh battery. A battery this size should last all day without having to recharge.

The processor inside the BlackBerry Priv will be the hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chip running at 1.8 GHz. Along with the Snapdragon 808 will be 3 GB of RAM. These specifications are exactly what is offered in the LG G4.

At first the Priv will start off by using Android 5.1 Lollipop, but it shouldn't be too long before it will be able to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
