The History Channel Show 'Pawn Stars' in Hot Water After Meling Down Stolen Coin Collection Worth Thousands
Gold and Silver Pawn Shop from the History Channel's Pawn Stars series is in a bit of hot water after melting down a collection of valuable, allegedly stolen coins.
According to Fox News affiliate FOX411, Jennifer Beckman allegedly stole her uncle's coin collection from his home. David Walters, a Clark County resident, filed a criminal complaint with the Clark County Justice Court in November 27, which when he actually noticed the coins were missing.
Taking the collection over a course of three visits beginning Nov. 18, Beckman sold the coins to Gold and Silver Pawn for $9,550. Walters, however, claims the collection was worth roughly $50,000.
According to Fox, police contacted the store on Dec. 5 notifying them of the stolen coins, but they had already been melted down.
"To the best of my knowledge, as the coins are unidentifiable, they may have been melted down," the pawnshop's representative told the publication. "They may have been sold. They may be in buckets with like coins waiting to be evaluated."
The representative also said the coins were not worth $50,000 but rather "were worth far less than the gentleman though they were worth."
The series features the pawnshop's four runners Rick Harrison, Corey Harrison, Richard "Old Man" Harrison and Austin "Chumlee" Russell as people bring in unique items they are hoping to sell for big cash payouts.
"Gold and Silver Pawn and its owner Rick Harrison takes pride in their honest and fair dealings with all their customers and those who visit our shop," the representative said. "All employees are aware that they, too, must always be honest in their dealings and would be terminated if they are found to be dishonest in their dealings."
The representative also told the affiliate that people with precious coin collections should be extra careful with its placement and handling.
