The Legend of Zelda for Wii U Confirmed to Have a Unique Twist pn Open World; 2016 Release Date Plan Continues
The idea of an open world Legend of Zelda game was teased with Nintendo's last release of Skyward Sword, however it has now been implied that producer Eiji Aonuma plans to take this idea full circle with the upcoming release for the Wii U.
In an interview with IGN, Aonuma admits that the response from fans is what prompted them to develop an open world for the next game, however the developers are looking to add something more unique to the gaming style.
"We actually had some feedback from Skyward Sword, where people were saying 'This is not exactly the Zelda game I was looking for, I was looking for a bigger open world,'" he said. "Unfortunately, I can't go into details but I'm hoping to put a surprise, or kind of a twist, on my view of an open world game. I hope that you'll look forward to it."
While Aonuma wants fans to understand that their team puts a lot of focus on consumer feedback, he also wants them to understand that they strive to put forward a lot of ideas of their own in an effort to keep the element of surprise.
"If there's a comment and they're asking for certain element, I would think, 'Oh, why not interpret this in a different way that you wouldn't expect?'" he said. "That's how we create a new element in a Zelda game. I always want to implement something new and surprising into every game."
The Legend of Zelda for Wii U was initially slated for a 2015 release, however, due to Aonuma's dissatisfaction with the final product, he's decided to move it up to 2016. He stated that his number one priority is to make this title the most complete Zelda game to date. There is no news regarding the change in release date as of now.
