Season 18 DWTS 2014 Lineup: Former Host Brooke Burke-Charvet Spills 'Dancing With the Stars' Secrets, Talks Cody Simpson's Contract
Now that Brooke Burke-Charvet was officially (and abruptly) replaced with Erin Andrews as co-host of Dancing With the Stars, she has no problem dishing the behind the scenes dirt.
Recently, Burke-Charvet reiterated that not even she was given a heads up that would not be hosting season 18.
"Well, I found out on a Friday, just like you guys found out on a Friday, and I think I don't quite understand it, like a lot of people," she told E! News. "I'm a little sad to see Harold Wheeler and the band go. That was the soul of the show. A lot of changes, but for me I think, in the bigger picture, it's a really good thing."
Burke-Charvet, who hosted for seven seasons and was a winning contestant for another, insists she doesn't "have any hard feelings." She has moved on ABC Family's Melissa and Joey and is currently shooting her two-episode appearance.
Still, the former host is a good go-to source for what goes on off camera, such as rumors that contestant Cody Simpson's contract states that his microphone must be on all the time.
"I have never heard anything about that, but I'll 'fess up a little bit: Sometimes I wouldn't even take my mic off when I would have to run to the ladies room," Burke-Charvet revealed. "...that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but in their defense, they do have to capture all moments so they can build their storylines."
According to Burke-Charvet, celebrity contestants don't have much of a say in getting embarrassing footage off the show.
"They want to show that, they want to really develop those stories, which is fair, but I haven't heard anything about [Cody's contract]," she explained. "I didn't get involved on that side of it, but everything is being taped and captured, so what we see really happens. I will say that much."
Season 18 of Dancing WIth the Stars premieres March 17 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
