Mega Millions Results, Winning Numbers & Winners: Jackpot Climbs to $400 Million
The sixth largest lotto jackpot ever offered in the United States will be up for grabs March 18. Will a ticket holder have enough luck to hit all 5 winning numbers and the Mega Ball?
The estimated $400 million jackpot, which has a $224 million cash option, takes the third spot in Mega Millions' highest jackpot list. The highest jackpot ever in Mega Millions history is $656 million and was won March 30, 2012. The second highest was the recent December 17, 2013, which placed $648 million up for grabs.
The Mega Millions website says that the $400 million jackpot has been rolling since the January 3 claim wherein a ticket holder from Tennessee emptied the jackpot at $61 million. No ticket won the estimated $353 million Mega Millions jackpot on the March 14 draw although five tickets won Match 5.
The last draw's winning numbers are: 7, 20, 40, 54 and 69, with a Mega Ball of 12.
According to the Mega Millions website, three of the Match 5 winning tickets included the $1 optional Megaplier, raising the Match 5 win to $3 million.
The Match 5 winning tickets with Megaplier reportedly sold in Arkansas, Florida and Virginia, notes the Mega Millions website. The two $1 million Match 5 winning tickets were both sold in Ohio.
The last draw's Match 5 winning tickets closes the number of Match 5 winners to 100 since Mega Millions' October 2013 relaunch, says the game's website. So far, there have been seven Match 5 + Multiplier winners, claiming prizes at $5 million, $4 million and $3 million for an extra dollar.
A Mega Millions ticket costs $1 and an additional $1 for an optional Megaplier. Hitting the jackpot is not the only way to win Mega Millions. The game offers players eight other ways to win, including Match 5, wherein tickets only have to hit the first five numbers and skip the Mega Ball.
The $400 million draw will be on March 18, Tuesday at 11:00 pm ET.
