Boxing: Brandon Rios' Only Chance is a Lucky Shot, Says Timothy Bradley
World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Timothy Bradley Jr. is not afraid of whatever strategy his challenger "Bam Bam" Brandon Rios is planning. For Bradley, his opponent's only chance is a lucky shot.
If the other camp has a game plan against him, the WBO champ knows he can handle it during their fight on Nov.7 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Boxing Scene noted. He felt that the 29-year-old fighter will not be able to bring him down.
"I am absolutely, totally focused," the California-born boxer said.
"Rios can bring on the pressure all night long and we will deal with it. The only chance Rios has is a lucky punch and that's not going to happen," added the two-time welterweight champion.
These statements from the 32-year-old title holder were in response to what Team Rios recently said.
Rios's trainer, the famous Robert Garcia, shared how their camp will capture the title from Bradley, noted a separate article from Boxing Scene.
"The way to beat Bradley is to put on pressure in the fight and try to knock him out. We plan to cut off the ring," Garcia said.
Rios said that he is very motivated to win against Bradley because he sees him as his ticket to being on top of his game again.
The former titleholder's dedication is evident in his training. "Bam Bam" revealed that he is practicing with three different types of sparring partners — a boxer, a brawler and a brawler-boxer — to increase his chances of winning.
Bradley to clash with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez?
Top Rank CEO promoter Bob Arum is planning another exciting fight for Bradley if he triumphs over Rios, ESPN noted. Arum wants to match him with Saul Alvarez, if "Canelo" captures the World Boxing Council crown from Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto unless the eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao picks him for his final fight.
"If Bradley wins and is not fighting Pacquiao, I'd like to make him with Canelo...If Canelo beats Cotto, I've talked to (Alvarez promoter) Oscar (De La Hoya) about the winner of Bradley-Rios fighting Canelo, and he loves it," Arum said.
Yet, Rios's camp is also thinking about the next move for "Bam Bam" if he beats Bradley, and it may involve a fight with WBO super lightweight titlist Terence Crawford or the Cotto-Canelo bout winner.
Whose career will shine further? Will Bradley truly overcome Rios's plan?
