Batman vs. Superman Movie News, Release, and Update: Jeremy Irons Admits 'Man of Steel' Sequel Script Not Completed
As early production is underway starting earlier this month for the upcoming Man of Steel sequel in Michigan and principal photography is set to begin in April, it came as a bit of a shock when Jeremy Irons, who will play Bruce Wayne's trusted confidante and butler Alfred Pennyworth, said the script isn't finished yet.
In an interview with Absolute Radio, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that he isn't sure what type of Alfred he'll be playing because of the uncompleted script.
"The script isn't entirely finished. We haven't started work yet. It'll be as much a surprise to me as you!" Irons admitted, adding, "I've read a script, I think it's not finalized yet."
Irons continued as he told the radio show he wasn't sure what type of Alfred he was going to play because of the lack of script.
"I don't know how my Alfred's going to be, we haven't started work yet," he said. "I'm going to be very interested to see (the script)."
He also said he had been watching Michael Caine's take on the Alfred in The Dark Knight Trilogy closely but admits that the pair has two different acting styles.
The England-based publication, Empire Magazine, theorized that an actor with his impressive resume would accept the job without reading the script first was because of the many zeros in the paycheck.
Irons, who will work alongside Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader, spoke highly of his future co-star.
"He's a lovely man and an interesting actor," Irons said. "I'm looking forward to getting to know him, I've only met him once. I hope we have a good time."
According to Empire, a leading publication in the film industry, it's not unusual for scripts not to be 100 percent completed at this stage in production.
The tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman has gained a lot of Internet buzz and attention in its casting since the film was first announced at Comic-Con San Diego, roughly two months after the release of Man of Steel.
The film reunites director Zack Snyder with Henry Cavill playing the title role, Amy Adams as intrepid reporter Lois Lane and Laurence Fishburne as the Daily Planet's Editor-in-Chief Perry White.
The upcoming sequel slated for May 6, 2016, will see the addition of Affleck, Irons, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, and Jesse Eisenberg as the villainous billionaire genius Lex Luthor.
