'Real Housewives of New Jersey,' Teresa Giudice Update: Low Ratings for 'Teresa Checks In' Jeopardize Star's 'RHONJ' Return
Teresa Giudice's Bravo spin-off show "Theresa Checks In" has been such a ratings disaster, speculation is building it could affect her slated return to the network's "Real Housewives of New Jersey" franchise series.
The three-part spin off starred husband Joe Giudice as he attempted to hold his family of four daughters together while his wife is incarcerated. It also featured Teresa Giudice via jailhouse phone calls with family members.
But Radar Online reports the series netted lower ratings "than every single episode of the last regular season of RHONJ," with the exception of Part 2 of the series' reunion show. In all, the show garnered only 1.231, 1.288 and 1.421 million viewers for its three Sunday night episodes, paling in ratings in comparison to the likes of "Guy's Grocery Games."
Word is Bravo producers are now growing increasingly concerned about the negative ratings trend and are worried Teresa simply might not have as many fans anymore, after serving out a 15-month federal prison sentence on bank fraud-related charges.
In time, this poor showing could make for tougher circumstances for the entire "RHONJ" cast.
"The contracts for the upcoming season aren't out yet," a source said. "And with the low ratings, they aren't moving too quickly. The ladies are worried about their future with the show and are wondering when they're going to get contracts."
But with all the questions now surrounding Teresa and her lasting power, that all remains up in the air, with no signs of resolution anytime soon.
"If people don't like Teresa anymore and advertisers are turned off, that will affect the show in a big way," a source added. "Bravo execs are weighing their options."
After his wife has been released, Joe Giudice is scheduled to soon start serving out the terms of his 41-month sentence on similar charges.
