Reese Witherspoon, Caitlyn Jenner Named Among Glamour’s 2015 Women of the Year
Reese Witherspoon and Caitlyn Jenner were among the women included in Glamour's 2015 Women of the Year list.
The magazine recently announced its list of honorees for Women of the Year for their 25th anniversary, according to E! News.
All together there are eight title winners, including transgender advocate Jenner and Oscar-winning actress and film producer Witherspoon, along with ballerina Misty Copeland, and the United States women's soccer team.
In addition to these recipients, president of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards, health entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes, fashionista Victoria Beckham and the women of the Charleston, South Carolina church shooting were also included on this year's list.
Witherspoon, who shines on the cover of Glamour's final issue this year, spoke about how she almost decided not to take the role of Elle Woods in "Legally Blonde."
"I saw this interview with Gloria Steinem about how important Goldie Hawn's role in 'Private Benjamin' was for women; by the end of the movie, the character socked her fiancé in the face at the altar because he didn't understand who she'd become through her journey," Witherspoon told Glamour. "I was like, 'I feel like Gloria Steinem told me to do 'Legally Blonde.' That's how Elle Woods is too!' She starts out thinking she's gonna follow a man, but in the end she's like, 'I don't need you.'"
Now the 39-year-old actress is more independent than ever, as she's co-founded her own production company, Pacific Standard. The company works to make films directed by women, so far producing the films "Gone Girl" and "Wild."
A ceremony will be held in commemoration of these women, and the Empire State Building will be illuminated in pink lights on Monday, Nov. 9. This day will be dedicated Women of the Year Day by New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. The ceremony will welcome Glamour's Editor-in-Chief Cindi Leive and Copeland.
Glamour's December issue hits newsstands on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
