Ed Sheeran Talks Celebrity Friendships, Being Part of Taylor Swift's Girl-Dominated Squad
When it comes to Taylor Swift and her squad, there are very few guys — who aren't boyfriends — invited in the inner circle. Except Ed Sheeran that is, and the award-winning singer-songwriter takes his coveted position in one of the entertainment industry's most documented and powerful clubs in stride.
In an interview with Billboard, Sheeran talked easily about his close friendship with Swift, musing how unique it is that two pals are dominating the charts.
"It's quite a weird thing for the No. 1 and No. 2 biggest-selling artists in the world to be close friends," he said. "I don't think that happens a lot."
When asked if he ever gets invited to hang out with Swift and her bevy of famous girl friends, the 24-year-old confirmed he does saying, "Of course. It's not a vaginas-only club."
With famous female superstars like Selena Gomez, Cara Delevingne, Gigi Hadid, Jaime King, Lena Dunham and so many more, it's good to hear Swift's gang has at least one male among their midst. Still, it's not only everyone's favorite "#squadgoals" squad that Sheeran hangs out with on a regular basis. Among his close celebrity friends are the music industry's most powerful couple, Jay Z and Beyoncé.
In fact, the report from Billboard revealed that the mega-producer and musician Jay Z even got a sneak peek at a track in Sheeran's third album when they hung out at the couple's pad after Global Citizen.
"He made me play it four times in a row and called me an alien," Sheeran shared about the producer's thoughts on his music. "That was promising."
Other celebrity friends include Courtney Cox and mentor Elton John, proving Sheeran's wide celebrity network and cementing his place in the entertainment landscape. The attention does make dating more difficult on the multi-awarded musician.
Although he remained tight-lipped about his relationship status, Sheeran did address being constantly scrutinized about his dating, saying he prefers laying low.
"I just never want to be public," he admitted. "It always, always backfires. I really wish I could disappear at moments that I'm with a significant other. It's none of anyone's [expletive] business."
Despite his dating troubles, Sheeran remains on top, especially after his successful hosting gig opposite Ruby Rose in the recent MTV European Music Awards (EMA). Along with entertaining the crowd as a host, he put on a show-stopping performance of "Lay It All On Me" with Rudimentary, plus bagged two awards: "Best Live" and "Best World Stage", according to a report from Hollywood Life.
