Windows 10 Smartphones: Microsoft Lumia 950, 950 XL Gets Price Cut In France
Amazon's local retailer in France has cut the pre-order prices of the two new Windows 10 smartphones.
As first sourced by WM Power User, the e-commerce website is offering the Microsoft Lumia 950 for €562.6 (approximately $619). That is a six percent drop from the handset's initial price of €599 or $660. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL now costs €649 or $715. Buyers could save seven percent on the bigger handset since it was original price at €699 (roughly $770).
The new pre-order prices in France are now lower than the ones listed in Italy, where the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL had a €599 and €699 price tag, respectively.
Pre-orders for the pair of Microsoft flagships started a week ago in Europe. Shipment is said to arrive in Italy on Nov. 27, while Windows Central noted that folks in the U.K. will have their Lumias on Dec. 3. A delivery date for pre-orders in France has yet to be specified. Amazon merely stated that the duo will be available in the country "soon."
In terms of their similarities, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL have a USB-C connector for synching and charging. Using their included chargers, both Windows 10 smartphones can fast charge up to 50 percent battery life in just 30 minutes, per PC Advisor.
Both have Bluetooth, Near Field Communication (NFC) and dual-band 80.11ac Wi-Fi. They also support iris-scanning technology for Windows Hello. The feature allows users to unlock their device by simply staring at them.
Another bonus for smartphones running on the Windows 10 Mobile OS is the ability to shift from handset to desktop display through Continuum and the Microsoft Display Dock.
Continuum is a nifty software feature that lets users continue their work from any Windows 10-supported device or PC. On the other hand, the Microsoft Display Dock is an optional accessory that connects a keyboard, mouse and monitor to the handset so it can work like a Windows 10 PC.
