The Samsung Galaxy S7 has not been officially announced, but it is likely already being created. One important feature for the upcoming smartphone is its camera and Samsung might be using the same sensor that is used in the Sony Xperia Z5.

Samsung has to decide which camera to use in its Galaxy S7 smartphone. According to Tech Radar, Samsung is deciding between using its own ISOCELL sensor or the IMX300 sensor used in the Sony Xperia Z5.

Samsung is said to be very impressed with the camera sensor used in the Sony Xperia Z5. They are so impressed with Sony's camera sensor that they want to use it themselves.

Instead of scrapping their own ISOCELL sensor, Samsung might actually use both. Certain phones, depending on the region could be equipped with Samsung's ISOCELL sensor and others could utilize the IMX300 from Sony. This is a similar strategy it use for different processors in past Galaxy smartphones.

Sony would like to keep their camera sensors to themselves and only offer it in their Xperia smartphones, but with the amount of phones that Samsung is selling, Sony might be swayed to let Samsung use it in order to boost their camera business.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 has a 16 megapixel (MP) camera, while the Sony Xperia Z5 steps it up to 23 MP. Samsung was working on an improved 20 MP sensor for the ISOCELL.

If Samsung decides to use the IMX300 from Sony, it would likely be at least a 23 MP sensor, or it might even be updated to even more megapixels.

Several improvements are expected in the Samsung Galaxy S7 other than the camera. The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon, likely the Snapdragon 820 could be used for the processor in the new phone. The Galaxy S7 could debut as early as January, as we recently reported.
