Huawei Mate 8 Release Date & Specs: Leaked Teaser Points to Nov. 26 Unveiling, 6-Inch Phablet Drops By GFXBench
Huawei has been sending out press invitations for an event happening on Nov. 5. Many expect the company's high-end Kirin 950 chipset to be unveiled during the event since the invitation had an image of a Kirin chip embellished with a circuitry theme.
Rumors suggested that the Huawei Mate 8 could also be shown off at the event as it would be a perfect time for the China mobile maker to hit two birds with one stone. The notion of Huawei introducing a new handset right after unveiling its top-tier chip is a likely scenario. However, a freshly leaked teaser from China indicated that this won't be the case.
First sourced by Mobile-dad, the teaser showed the number eight with a date of "2015.11.26." That's Nov. 26, 2015, presumably the day when the new handset will be unveiled. It should also be noted that the teaser had the same circuitry theme used on the press invitations for the Kirin 950 event. This pretty much confirms that the Mate 8 will be powered by the Kirin 950 chipset. An official release date for the Mate 8 will surely be announced on Nov. 26.
Now that we have the scheduling covered, let's move on the specs of the Mate 8. A live still of the handset's rear side, sans its back casing, emerged online over the weekend. The image revealed a rounded camera design with a rounded fingerprint scanner and a lozenge-shaped dual-LED flash. Click here to view the image.
Aside from the camera feature, the leak also hinted that the Mate 8 will tow a sleek frame complete with metal chassis, reminiscent of the metal-clad Mate 7 from October 2014, Phone Arena reported.
With regard to the rest of the Mate 8's specs, a recently discovered benchmark listing on GFXBench via Win Future gave away most of the details of Huawei's upcoming flagship phablet.
The Mate 8 sports a six-inch 1080x1920 Full HD display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable native storage and a large-capacity 4,100 mAh battery. As expected, the Kirin 950 chipset is under the hood with an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.2GHz and the Mali-T880 GPU.
Its 16-megapixel rear camera captures Full HD images and videos while having support for LED-flash, autofocus, touch focus and face detection. Meanwhile, its eight-megapixel front-facing unit also lets users take selfies and hold video calls in Full HD resolution.
The Mate 8 is capable of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and Near Field Communication (NFC). The Android 6.0 Marshmallow is pre-installed.
