Is the ferocious and unbeaten Kazakh warrior Gennady Golovkin afraid of Andre Ward?

"Triple G" spread terror on the ring as all foes who clashed with him in his 34 previous fights failed to beat him, per BoxRec. Aside from that, 31 of them lost via knockout wins. Yet, could it be that one of the most fearsome warriors is actually scared of another fighter?

Ward proposed a fight this year against Golovkin, but was turned down in just a few minutes after it was received, the California-born boxer told Fight Hub.

So, what could be the reason "GGG" rejected the fight against Ward?

A big risk for Golovkin

World Boxing Association super lightweight champion Terence Crawford voices his opinion why "GGG" has not faced Ward yet. For Crawford, Ward can beat Golovkin and put an end to his undefeated record, On the Ropes Boxing Radio reported.

"Andre Ward [could beat Golovkin], because he's the best right now, and also he is the best active boxer right now," Crawford said.

When asked if "it would be too much of a risk for Golovkin to go up in weight being that Ward is a big 168-pound fighter?" Crawford confirmed it would be.

"Well yeah, it's a big risk. I feel that's why they wouldn't take that fight, because there is no need right now to take the fight."

Other plans

Golovkin may have refused having a showdown with Ward as he is more focused on his middleweight unification goal.

In July, Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, who promotes the Kazakh, announced "GGG's" intention to unify the belts in his chosen weight class, Boxing Scene noted.

On Oct. 17, Golovkin was already a step closer to his goal when he defeated Canadian boxer David Lemieux and earned the International Boxing Federation title from him. Now, the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization middleweight king has already three championship belts in his possession.

Being the World Boxing Council interim champion, he is the mandatory challenger to whoever wins the Nov. 21 title fight between Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto and the Mexican favorite Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

So, it would actually be wise for Golovkin to continue with his goal and postpone a fight with Ward first. Moreover, Ward is moving up the light heavyweight division, per Fight Hype. "Triple G" should just finish everything he had started in the middleweight before he goes up and adds some pounds to face heavier opponents.
