The new "Six Billion Dollar Man" film starring Mark Wahlberg will essentially be a remake of the old classic TV show "The Six Million Dollar Man," which starred Lee Majors in the titular role.

According to Deadline, the modern take on the show will adjust for inflation, given that $6 million dollars is a fairly weak sum compared to what it was back in 1973, when the original series debuted on television.

Like its predecessor, the modern take on the series is based on the novel "Cyborg" by author Martin Caidin.

The basic premise of the show, the book and the new movie is that Col. Steve Austin -- not to be confused with the former WWE wrestler -- is a military officer and a NASA astronaut. While he is on a mission, his ship experiences a catastrophe that leaves the man clinging to life.

"We can rebuild him. We have the technology," the opening credits of the show famously announced.

That quote sets the stage for the whole premise of the show. Austin is rebuilt using cybernetic parts and mechanical hardware, essentially giving him superhuman strength. He is then able to run with super speed and fight his enemies with super strength, and it might take a little more than a bullet to penetrate his metallic frame.

Although details for the new feature film are scarce at this point, the project is expected to take on similar themes, though updated for a modern setting.

The film is also a long way off. It has been set for a premiere date of Dec. 22, 2017 as of right now.

There has also been no word yet if Lee Majors will be making a cameo in the film, as many remakes of 1970s TV shows have with other former stars.
