Motorola Moto X Force Release Date & Specs: 5.4-Inch Android Smartphone Now Available for Pre-orders
The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 released in the U.S. last week as a Verizon-exclusive. Now, the handset is ready to be available in the U.K. albeit bearing a different name: Moto X Force.
Interested takers in the U.K. can pre-order the Moto X Force starting this week. Delivery is set to arrive as early as Nov. 9.
Handtec is offering a SIM-free Moto X Force for £497.99, which is $767. Meanwhile, Carphone Warehouse is selling the smartphone for £529.99 or £37.50 per month on monthly plans. That's $815 and $58, respectively. As of the moment, only the black-colored variant of the Moto X Force is up for pre-order.
Similar to the Droid Turbo 2, the Moto X Force comes with a 5.4-inch 1440x2560 shatterproof display. Motorola assured that the screen won't crack nor shatter for four years. The company's drop test, which you can see in the video below, confirmed the smartphone could withstand a random accident.
The display is protected by what Motorola calls "ShatterShield." The technology covers the display with several protective layers to keep it from smacking into the handset's metal frame and the hard surface it meets when dropped, per Phone Arena.
It also helps that the smartphone has a flexible AMOLED display. This basically means it's made with a plastic substrate instead of glass.
The Moto X Force runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, though it will likely be upgradeable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. However, Motorola hasn't exactly shed light on when the update will start rolling out.
As for the rest of the Moto X Force's specs, Qualcomm's octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor is on board plus 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage, which is expandable via micro-SD card support. There's a 21-megapixel back camera with 4K video recording and a five-megapixel front-facing unit with flash. A high-capacity 3,760 mAh battery keeps the handset's lights on for a considerable amount of time.
Verizon calls the Moto X Force's U.S.-exclusive clone as "the perfect phone for imperfect people." A recent post on the mobile carrier's official Twitter page showed the Moto Droid Turbo 2 falling screen-first to the ground as a reference to its shatterproof screen.
The Droid Turbo 2 is also the first Verizon Droid to be added to Moto Maker, Motorola's online customization service. Customers can choose from a collection of colors and skins including leather and ballistic nylon. Over 1,000 combinations can be made, guaranteeing that customers feel a sense of individuality with their Droid Turbo 2.
