'Live by Night' News Update: Miguel Joins Zoe Saldana in Ben Affleck's New Film
Ben Affleck's upcoming "Live by Night" has added another Latino to the mix.
R&B star Miguel has been announced as another cast member for the upcoming film, joining Zoe Saldana, Elle Fanning, Chris Messina and Sienna Miller, according to Deadline.
"Live by Night" will be Miguel's acting debut, and he is slated to play the role of Esteban, the brother of Saldana's Graciela. In the film, Graciela is a woman that Coughlin meets as he becomes involved with crime.
The new movie will be directed by Affleck and is based on the Dennis Lehane novel "The Given Day." The film takes place during the Prohibition-era and tells the story of Joe Coughlin, the son of a police captain who gets involved in organized crime.
The film will be released in 2017.
Miguel is a Los Angeles native of Mexican descent. He got his career started in 2000 when he signed a production deal with Drop Squad. From there he had a few false starts including the 2004 album "Young & Free" that was ultimately shelved. Eventually he released his first album "All I Want is You" in 2010. The album became a sleeper hit after a tough start in the market.
He then made "Kaleidoscope Dream" in 2012. That album was as high as third on the charts in the U.S. and the first among R&B albums. Earlier this year the artist released his third album "Wildheart," which sold 40,500 in its first week. The album met with solid reviews as well.
Miguel has been nominated for a plethora of major awards, including three Billboard Music Awards and eight Grammy Awards. In 2013 he won the Grammy for Best R&B Song for "Adorn."
"Live by Night" will be Affleck's fourth directorial effort after "Gone Baby Gone," "The Town" and "Argo." The last of this trio of films won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2012.
