There have been a lot of "what just happened" moments lately on "The Walking Dead" that have fans worried about their favorite characters. While executive producer Greg Nicotero already commented, though elusively, about Glenn (Steven Yeun), he recently made his first comment about Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) hand.

According to an exclusive interview the producer gave to Comic Book, this season was meant to shake up the "TWD" world, prompting fan hysteria over social media following each episode.

Nicotero quoted fellow EP Scott Gimple on what showrunners hoped to do this season.

The producer told Comic Book, "Scott [Gimple] said to me when I was shooting the first episode, he said, 'Our goal this year is we want to break people's televisions. We want to put things in front of them that are so mind-blowing that they're TV's will just vaporize.'"

Nicotero added, "I feel like that was basically our marching orders going into this season and every episode has a 'What the f*ck?' moment and those moments will continue."

Meanwhile, fans have been wondering if they might eventually lose their favorite lead protagonist Rick to the ongoing issue with his cut hand.

Lincoln actually promoted the notion that his character should lose his hand, much in the same way that Hershel (Scott Wilson) lost his leg. But that could pose quite a technical challenge for the show moving forward.

"The whole Rick losing his hand conversation, [Lincoln] has told me a thousand times, 'Listen, let's just chop it off. I don't know why he has a hand. I think it would be great.'" Nicotero said. "I think it would be very challenging indeed to try to deal with removing Rick's hand from a technical standpoint."

Nicotero's comment is a good indicator that Lincoln is safe on the show, given the producer's obvious resistance to constantly digitally transforming a character's hand onscreen for many episodes to come.

Another fan theory held that the show might kill off Daryl (Norman Reedus) because of the actor's new show on AMC, but that idea quickly got debunked.

"No!" Nicotero assertively said. "That show is something he [Reedus] shot a promo for before we even started shooting. I saw that that was announced and he's like, 'Oh, man! Now everyone's gonna think that you guys don't want me on the show anymore!' No. It's completely different. We have lots of our actors that go off and do different things in between."
