Zombie domination on TV is alive and well now that Syfy has renewed one of its highest rated shows, "Z Nation," for Season 3. The show, which is one of two zombie apocalypse themed series on cable TV, is currently in the middle of its second season.

According to Deadline, the decision to renew the show was easy one for the basic cable network. It features some of the most talked about storylines on the network for any of their shows on social media.

Season 2 is currently averaging 1.5 million viewers per episode, which includes the Live + 7 numbers. Although that is quite impressive for a horror series and even a cable series, it pales in comparison to the monster ratings brought in by the AMC powerhouse show "The Walking Dead," which averages between 15 million - 20 million viewers per episode.

Although both shows feature a zombie apocalypse as their main running theme, what sets them apart are the rules that each series has laid out for the monsters and humans.

In "Z Nation," the zombies are faster and have more cognitive skills. The show also likes to inject a bit of humor into it. It does feature a man who is immune from the zombie bite, so the main theme of the show is to get him to the last remaining viral laboratory in the U.S. The show also started about three years after the onslaught of zombie apocalypse.

"The Walking Dead" takes up much different rules. It started at the beginning of the epidemic and features the classic style of zombies, which are called Walkers and they move slowly with no cognitive reasoning skills. The biggest difference between the two is that in "TWD," everyone is infected. It does not take a zombie bite for someone to turn, it just takes death.

"Z Nation" still runs strong with a great cast to come with it. That includes Kellita Smith, DJ Qualls, Keith Allen, Anastasia Baranova, Russell Hodgkinson, Nat Zan and Matt Cedeño.
