"Diablo 3" was first launched back in 2012, but Blizzard Entertainment shows it has no intention of leaving the action RPG in the dust with the newest patch 2.4.0, which is arguably the biggest update of the best-selling game to date.

According to a report from PC Gamer, the announcement for the new update was made at the BlizzCon over the weekend. It's a massive upgrade with plenty of new features and quite a few changes, all of which were detailed at the Diablo official blog.

The biggest addition is the introduction of an entirely new zone called the Greyhollow Island. This zone will only be playable in Adventure Mode, but seems worth the thrill as the land is said to be "hungry for blood."

"This mysterious forested locale is steeped in intrigue, and rumors abound that those who visit are doomed to never return," the blog described Greyhollow Island. "Brave the wild beasts and supernatural creatures and unravel the mystery behind the tragedies that have occurred here."

Aside offering a brand new zone, the patch will be expanding existing areas, namely the Eternal Woods and the Royal Quarters. More secrets leading to events and bounties lie in the extended areas, so players can get to stretch their adventure out.

Each of the class sets will also be revamped, whether its "total overhauls" or other significant upgrades. The patch also brings updated jewelry sets, as well as an additional weapon set for the Crusader.

Players will get to test out their new skills and items with new challenges, particularly Set Dungeons. Once a player has completed all six pieces of a class set, they will be given a clue to find a dungeon. Mastering these dungeons can yield special rewards.

Other new features include Empowered Rifts, Season Rebirth, 40 new Legendaries, redesigned buff bar and a bigger stash space. Players on PC will also getting the Action Combat system that's already in the console game.

The update will also include revisions to the Season Journey, such as scrapping out Seasonal Legendaries beginning with the fifth season. According to the official blog, all Legendary items in the upcoming patch will be available to all players.

The patch 2.4.0 is described as a "monstrous patch", and the details from Blizzard Entertainment certainly make the update sound like one worth getting hyped over. The last "Diablo 3" patch 2.3.0 notably introduced the Kanai's Cube, which extracts powers from items. Watch the video below to find out more about the last update of the RPG game.
