NFL Monday Night Football Predictions & Preview: Chicago Bears vs. San Diego Chargers
The Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers will face one another on Monday night. This isn't exactly the glamorous Monday Night Football game we usually get as neither teams in this game even have a winning record. Still, it's football, so just sit back and enjoy the game.
Let's preview the game and pick a winner.
Chicago Bears (2-5)
With the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings having great seasons, the Bears don't really have a chance at winning the NFC North this season. So much has gone wrong for the Bears this year it's hard to point out just one problem. Their defense ranks 28th overall in points against, and they haven't won a single divisional game yet. As a matter of fact, the only two wins for the Bears have come against the AFC; the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders.
Jay Cutler wasn't traded at the deadline, but so much confidence has been lost in him in the Windy City. Unfortunately for Cutler, the Bears have an extremely tough schedule coming up with notable games against the Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Rams. The Bears need a whole new makeover starting this offseason. There's a good chance they'll rebuild by trading away a lot of key players.
In this game the biggest issue for the Bears will be containing Philip Rivers. Rivers leads the NFL in passing yards, and even though his team is 2-6, he's still a quality quarterback.
San Diego Chargers (2-6)
Things haven't looked great for the Chargers either. They are currently on a four game losing streak, and they have a bye week next week. The Chargers defense has been pretty awful this year as well. Their defensive unit ranks 27th overall in the league in points allowed. Like the Bears, the Chargers won't be winning their division either as the Denver Broncos are miles ahead in the win department.
Rivers isn't getting much help around him. The Chargers rushing attack is the third worst in the league, and Rivers has been sacked 19 times. The Chargers haven't won a game since they defeated the Cleveland Browns back in Week 4. If the Chargers miss the playoffs again this year it will be the fifth time in the last six years they fail to do so.
The Chargers will be at home in this game, and Danny Woodhead could very well be the x-factor player who makes the difference with critical first downs. The Chargers have allowed 24 points or more in every game this season, so Rivers and the offense will have to be on point.
Schedule
The Bears and Chargers will play each other on Monday at 8:30 p.m. EDT on ESPN. The game will be played at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. You can watch a live game stream here.
Prediction
Looks like we're going to have a shootout game tonight. Both of these defenses are really bad, but both squads have quality offensive players. Neither team really has a huge advantage or incentive to win, but the Chargers will be at home. I'm going with the Chargers based on home field advantage in a high scoring game.
Chargers win 31-27
