Panasonic Toughbook 20: Rugged Laptop That Can Survive Drops from Six Feet High, Withstand Extreme Heat
The Panasonic Toughbook 20 is the perfect hybrid laptop for people that are rough on their technology. The Toughbook 20 is military-grade certified to handle drops and withstand very hot conditions.
The Toughbook 20 is a 2-in-1 laptop that has all of the right materials to make it extremely tough, Tech Radar reports. The laptop uses a magnesium alloy chassis to protect itself from falls of up to six feet.
Of course, the Toughbook 20 also has more than just a tough body. The Toughbook 20 uses the new Intel Core M5 vPro processor, and it will have 8 GB of RAM.
The screen for the Toughbook 20 is 10.1 inches, and it has a resolution of 1,920 x 1080 pixels. The screen can actually be locked to keep unauthorized users from accessing the user's data. The screen has a raised bezel so that if it is dropped face down, it will not strike the ground directly flat.
The ports on the Toughbook 20 can be protected with port covers which helps keep dust out of the ports when moving around. The Toughbook is rated IP65, which means total protection from dust.
The Toughbook 20 features a carrying handle that also works as the laptop's kickstand. The kickstand and carrying handle allows the Toughbook 20 to be used in almost any setting.
If conditions get hot, the Toughbook 20 can keep itself cool all the way up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. If conditions get too cold, the Solid State Drive heater will keep the device warm enough to continue running smoothly.
When the Toughbook 20 ships, it will come pre-installed with Windows 10. If users prefer, they can downgrade to Windows 7. The laptop will start with 128 GB of storage, but can be upgraded to 512 GB. The laptop will offer the options to add a true serial port, a magstripe reader, a barcode reader, GPS and 4G LTE.
The battery life is yet to be determined on this laptop, but users can throw in a new battery without even turning off the operating system, meaning no work or time will be lost.
The Toughbook 20 will command a high price of $3,099 when it ships in February.
