'Baywatch' Cast & News: Nina Dobrev, Ashley Benson To Join Zac Efron in Remake?
The anticipated reboot of the hit TV series "Baywatch" into the big screen, starring Zac Efron and Dwayne "The Rock Johnson," has been flocked with rumors as to who will be the female stars featured in the film.
Rumors claim that "Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev might just do justice in her role, where she almost always wears a red bikini famous in the original TV series starring Pamela Anderson. However, there is still no official confirmation regarding the news.
Deadline speculates that Paramount Pictures had been screen-testing several female actresses including Dobrev for the female roles in the upcoming film, which is set to have a 2016 production, reports suggest. The speculated actresses included "Percy Jackson" star Alexandra Daddario, "Pretty Little Liars" star Ashley Benson and "Straight Outta Compton" star Alexandra Shipp.
Deadline further speculates that "Teen Wolf" star Shelley Hennig, "The Duff" star Bianca Santos and "Big Time Rush" actress Denyse Tontz may have also been screen-tested to play female roles for the "Baywatch" remake.
The film, which will be directed by Seth Gordon per another Hollywood Life report, is still in its initial stages of development but has already been receiving conflicting reactions, especially from some of the original "Baywatch" cast members.
In a previous interview with Hollywood Life, Anderson revealed that she is not into the remake at all. "It's not gonna happen dude," Anderson told the publication. "Good luck with that one!" she said during PETA's 35th anniversary celebration last Sept. 30.
The original TV series, which featured Anderson and David Hasslehoff, ran from 1989 until 2001, The Wrap reports. The upcoming film is said to center on the story between Johnson, a veteran lifeguard who is forced to team up with a younger lifeguard (Efron) in their common interest of saving the beach from an environmental crisis.
The film's director, Gordon, also previously worked in "Horrible Bosses." However, there is still no official confirmation from Gordon or other executives of the film remake regarding the female roles. Also, the premiere date is yet to be determined pending the official start of the film's production.
Previous rumors also suggest that despite Anderson's statements regarding the remake, she and Hasslehoff may be appearing in the reboot to play minor roles, Hollywood Life speculates.
