Matt Barnes Opens up About Derek Fisher's Move to Tell Police About Their Altercation
Matt Barnes thinks that the altercation that happened between him and New York Knicks' head coach Derek Fisher should have stayed private.
Previous reports revealed that Barnes allegedly attacked Fisher after learning that he's dating his ex-wife Gloria Govan. The New York Post reported that Matt Barnes drove 95 miles to his former place, which he once shared with ex-wife Gloria just to confront Derek Fisher about the situation. Apparently, someone told Barnes during a training camp that Fisher was in his former place, prompting the NBA bad boy to skip training and head to his place. That's when the brawl started. According to a source, it was Barnes' twins that called him and informed him that Fisher was indeed there.
Once he reached the place, he found Govan, Fisher and 10 other visitors in the place, all settling to have a bonfire in the backyard. The brawl happened around 11:45 pm. The police were also called, but Fisher already left when they arrived.
Despite the incident, Fisher did not press charges against the Memphis Grizzlies forward. Matt Barnes' team, the Memphis Grizzlies, will meet the LA Clippers in Los Angeles. When the issue about the altercation came up, Barnes openly expressed what he felt about the situation. Featured on CBS Sports, Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times tweeted Barnes' statement, where he implied that they are two grown men who could have settled the matter privately instead of running to the police and the NBA.
Barnes also stressed that the New York Post is being handled by the New York Knicks, making it impossible for them to agree on his side, even accusing them of making him look bad in their press releases. Barnes and Fisher were both teammates when they played for the Los Angeles Lakers years ago. Today, they have both handled their careers in a different way with Barnes playing forward for the Memphis Grizzlies and Derek Fisher coaching the New York Knicks team. The two former teammates will eventually have to meet sometime in January for their NBA schedules, hopefully by that, they have already settled their issues.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies lost to the LA Clippers on their Nov. 10 schedule with a score of 94-92 in Los Angeles. What do you think about Matt Barnes' reaction to Fisher? Do you think something like this will happen when the two teams meet in January?
