Jose Reyes has been charged with physically attacking his wife in their Hawaii hotel room over the Halloween weekend.

The New York Daily News reports the Mets former star shortstop was taken into custody on Oct. 31, after allegedly attacking his wife and leaving her with clear injuries to her thigh, neck and wrists.

Reports are the two were quarreling in their Four Seasons abode when Reyes allegedly "yanked" her off the bed, "pushed her, grabbed her by the throat and shoved her into a sliding glass door."

The four-time All-Star and current Colorado Rockies veteran was arrested after hotel security called police. While Reyes' agent Chris Leible has declined comment, MLB officials announced they have already commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

The 32-year-old Reyes started his big league career with the Mets but bolted in 2012 to sign a six-year, $106 million free agent deal with the Florida Marlins. In all, Reyes has played 13 major league seasons, with his best campaign coming in 2006 when he hit .300 with 19 homers and 81 RBIs.

Reyes' alleged incident places him in the bad company of several other high-profile pro athletes that have faced similar allegations.

Just last week, pictures of wounds inflicted by Dallas Cowboys football star Greg Hardy on ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder last year surfaced. Also in 2014, then NFL star Ray Rice was captured on video surveillance camera striking his wife in an Atlantic City casino hotel elevator.

Rice was suspended indefinitely by the league NFL but was reinstated after he appealed. He was eventually cut by the Baltimore Ravens has yet to be picked up by another team.

In a statement, MLB officials asserted, "Major League Baseball understands the seriousness of the issues surrounding domestic violence, and our policy explicitly recognizes the harm resulting from these acts. Any action taken by the commissioner's office in this matter will be wholly in accordance with this police."
