Motorola Moto 360 (2014) Now Available for Only $99.99, Check Details Here
Those looking to purchase an Android Wear smartwatch, but aren't really sold on the pricey models released this year, should consider getting the first-generation Motorola Moto 360 from 2014. The particular device recently received another price drop and is now cheaper than ever in the U.S.
Android Central was the first to report about the Moto 360 (2014) being available on the Google Store for only $99.99. As if the sale isn't appealing enough, Google will ship the device for free.
It is still unclear whether or not the discount is a limited time offer but in all likelihood, it isn't. That's because the original Moto 360 is now over a year old. Its current asking price of $99.99 might very well be permanent. Of course, the price could still drop in the coming years but it certainly won't be valued any higher.
The original Moto 360 released in the U.S. on Sept. 5, 2014. Its launch price was a reasonable $250, a full $100 cheaper than the entry-level Apple Watch.
According to Tech Radar, the device's round 1.56-inch 320 x 290 resolution LCD display was so attractive and innovative that it instantly inspired other smartwatch makers to follow suit. It can be remembered that smartwatches back then had a slab-type miniature cellphone design.
Accompanying its traditional watch setup is an always-on screen. The Moto 360 (2014) tells the time even when its backlit LCD is in power-saving mode. The capability is also featured on the Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch. All three watches are protected with Gorilla Glass 3.
"As long as it's charged, the Moto 360 feels different from any of its competitors. In many ways, it feels like the first real smartwatch," said tech reviewer David Pierce from The Verge. "Everything before it was a screen on your wrist, a mini-tablet made to bring you easy notifications. Those are a warped evolution of computers, not watches. But the Moto 360 is to a sundial as the iPad is to a stone tablet: it's the same, only completely different."
Meanwhile, the second edition Moto 360 released earlier this year with a $299 price tag. It was available in two screen sizes, 1.56 inches, and 1.37 inches. The original Moto 360, on the other hand, was only offered with a 1.56-inch screen.
Just like its successor, the older model can be paired with most Android smartphones and tablets. It can also be updated to the latest version of Android Wear, making it compatible with iOS devices.
