Captain America 2 Release Date, Cast & News Update: See Scarlett Jo, Chris Evans and Crew Go Retro in New Movie Poster
Captain America's goes old school with the newly released retro-style movie poster. The poster includes all major characters of the film including Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Cobie Smulders, Anthony Mackie, Samuel L. Jackson, Frank Grillo, Robert Redford, Emily VanCamp and Sebastian Stan.
The art of the poster was created by comic book artist Paola Rivera, who Vanity Fair reports also made the cast and crew poster for the first movie. This poster is the Marvel Studio's response to curb accusations of excessive photoshopping or and comments like the earlier criticism of Scarlett Johansson's "weak" pose that plagued official Marvel poster.
Rivera has posted the piece along with some outtakes on his blog, where the famed artist said:
Well, this got posted on Ain't It Cool News today, so I'm guessing it's okay to show. As you can imagine, I had an awesome time working on it... and I can't wait to the see the movie. I'll do a full tutorial post on the original art at some point (I recorded the entire painting process via time lapse) but in the meantime, here are a couple of early comps that almost were. Have a great weekend!
Given the franchise is for Captain America played by Chris Evans, the poster features Scarlett, just as much a focal of the poster as Evans. We'll soon be able to see what this means for her character's in terms of importance in the upcoming second installment film.
It was recently reported by Latin Post that Scarlett has stated she'll be talking to Marvel about a Black Widow spin-off. Hopefully this headline role of Scarlett as Black Widow will garner enough fan clamor to make the heroine's feature film a reality.
Johansson said at the London premiere of Captain America: Winter Soldier, "If you want to see a Black Widow spin-off movie, then I want to see it. We'll see. We will put the request into Marvel tomorrow."
