Acer Predator 8 Release Date & Specs: Gaming Tablet Pre-Order Starts, Shipment To Begin Soon
The Acer Predator 8 was unveiled back in September as a cutting-edge game-oriented tablet. Acer was supposed to release the device on Nov. 6, but due to unexplained circumstances, it would only start shipping on Nov. 13.
If you've done your homework on the Predator 8 and can't wait to get your gaming hands on the device, you should be glad to know that it is now available for pre-order in the U.S., Android Central reported.
The Predator 8 comes with an eight-inch 1920 x 1200 resolution IPS LCD screen. The display setup features tactile feedback and includes LED-backlighting. Under the hood is a four-core Intel Atom Z8700 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz. The CPU comes with Turbo Boost Technology that increases operating frequency up to 2.4 GHz.
Android Authority pointed out that the tablet's exterior makes it seem as though it was pulled out from a sci-fi action movie, but there's a logic behind the unorthodox design. As it turns out, the four magenta-colored edges are actually front-facing loudspeakers. They support Acer's virtual surround sound feature known as Predator Quadio.
The Predator 8 boasts of Acer's TacSense technology that provides force feedback and vibrations for more immersive gameplay. It basically feels like a smarter version of Nintendo's Rumble Pak gamepad.
The tablet also includes Predator MediaMaster. The feature allows users to customize video and audio sliders for better gaming and multimedia experiences.
But what good will all of these do if the device can't keep its lights on for an extended period of time? Luckily, Acer has an answer to that too. The Taiwan tech giant has equipped the Predator 8 with a whopping 4,550 mAh battery.
Apart from its top-tier gaming specs, the Predator 8 is a generic mid-level tablet. As listed on TigerDirect, the device has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable native storage. It is flanked by a five-megapixel back camera and a two-megapixel front-facing unit. An unspecified version of the Android Lollipop OS is pre-installed, but you can bet the Predator 8 will be eligible for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS once the firmware update becomes available.
Initially, e-commerce site Newegg was reported to have a timed exclusive on the Predator 8. Now, Pre-orders are also being taken on TigerDirect and Acer's own online store.
The Predator 8 can be yours for $299.99. But before you decide to pull the trigger, note that the tablet is a Wi-Fi-only device. It's still unclear if Acer will release a 3G/LTE version.
